Ups and Downs of Submissions

Posted on May 26, 2011 Leave a Comment

After I came back from the RT Convention in April, I was a happy aspiring author. I’d received two requests from agents and one from an editor for my manuscript, California Sunset. I polished it up one more time and sent it off, full of naive confidence.

Reality has set in with one agent rejection and a publisher rejection. On the up side, the first 25 pages of the same novel has made it to the finals of the San Diego RWA contest. I can already see that allowing the roller coaster of submissions, acceptances, and rejections to dominate my emotional life will be counter-productive.

I love the romance writers’ community. They are the most supportive group of people I have ever come across. The members of my current RWA community in California have given me virtual hugs and kudos on Facebook and my new RWA community in Montana (I’m moving in a few weeks) is offering sage advice.

So I keep on keeping-on.  I’m up to about 9,000 words of the sequel, California Wine. Once I get settled in my new home, I create a short story for you all to enjoy.  So, sign up for the RSS feed to get the first installment. And let me know what you think about “Choosing a Hat.” Feedback welcome!
