Every writer thrives on inspiration from books–others’ words and our own.. Some times it seems like an elusive chimera. Other times words just flow. Most writers encourage each other because we know the hard work it takes to turn inspiration into something worth while for readers to absorb.
You see, we want you engaged. If I write desirable characters who need to do something to achieve their goals and, in the case of romance, develop a promise of happily ever after, or at least happily ever now. Along the way many of us try to inspire our readers to learn more about themselves, others, or do something bold that will affect everyone around them.
The writers in my critique group always try to figure out what the social issue is in my books. I believe our lives don’t work in a vacuum. Things around us affect our families, and we, in turn, affect others, whether consciously or unconsciously. If we don’t pay attention, the world moves on without our thinking through the affect of our input.
I deliberately tried to avoid a social issue in Sweet Montana Christmas, and it was a more difficult story to write. No social issues are emerging in my Christmas story for this year, but there’s time yet!
What about the rest? Alcoholism, co-dependency, pregnant single mothers, amputee veterans, bi-polar syndrome, autism, and the immigration problem.
I hope you, the reader, enjoy the stories with a little bit of realism thrown in. Let me know what’s important to you and why? I’d love to hear from you via a comment or on my Facebook Page.
